Slab-built pottery made by hand

…meant to be held.

Textured hand-built ceramics by Sarah Pike in Fernie, BC

The process

Sarah’s slab-built pots begin with a thin slab of soft clay. Hand-carved stamps and rollers impress the clay’s squishy surface, creating raised texture and pattern. The slabs are then cut, and the pieces assembled into a variety of functional forms. The process is deliberately slow and intuitive, relying heavily on play, design, and experimentation. This approach imbues every pot with its own distinct personality.

That’s me in the thought bubble. Pretty much where I live.

I used to get in trouble for daydreaming, but these days I call it part of the creative process. Turns out, all that wandering led me right here.
